STAGING:ACTING AND MOVEMENTS

In Batman: Begins, Christophe Nolan was criticized that his could not handle the action parts. In The Dark Knight, he did make lots of improvement. The fighting scene happened in the very first section. This time, the Batman Christian Bale immersed himself in a refresher course on the Keysi Fighting Method (KFM) that Batman employs against his enemies(“Production Notes” 7). Thus, the fighting scene became more natural. However, the KMF had strengthened Bale’s physical condition without enhancing the flow of fighting. Consequently, those fighting scenes were as natural as the real-person fighting with a slow-motion take. Since The Dark Knight was expected to be an action film, the body movements were not that satisfactory for the audiences. Yet, Nolan controlled the cars, motorcycles and anything that was related to traffic very well. The BatPod (The

motorcycle which was the re-construction of the Batmobile.) built a flying image on the screen. It was also an important element of the car-chasing scene. When Batman confronted the Joker, the stream-line of Batpod and Batman’s cloak suddenly formed a strong image. At the end of the movie, Batman rode on his Batpod with Gordon’s voice-over “he is the silent guardian, a watchful protector…he is the dark knight” (“The Dark Knight”), the dark-colored Batpod and the black cloak eventually perfectly fit the title “The Dark knight”. It was also the subject matter – Bruce Wayne as the Dark knight of Gotham. The contradictory colorization – black as the color of evil; however, the flying black cloak indicated that he was truly a knight. The title design also showed the intention – with Gordon’s voice-over, the title came after “he’s the dark knight” as a representational title design. The upside down Joker was a part of the thematic value, too. The theme “The very fine line of good and evil really blurs” was implied by Batman’s contradictory characteristic and Joker’s seemly right statements. Those statements would make the audiences feel desperate of humanity which impinged the mood of the audience. Overall, the acting and movements served the function of visual design perfectly.

SPECIAL EFFECTS

“Using IMAX technology to shoot some of the action scenes gave us

the greatest possible canvas on which to tell the story,

and the result is an incredibly immersive experience.”

- Christopher Nolan

With the help of high-technology, it is easier to achieve some stunning scenes. First, the time-consuming make-up of Two-face. Actually, he didn’t put anything on his face. In fact, those terrifying visual effects come from CGI. Eckhart

recalls, “It was interesting for me in that, because of the technology, I didn’t have to spend hours in make-up every day. The whole process was effortless…at least for me” (“Production Notes” 20). Another big breakthrough on film history was that: Christopher Nolan became the first director to use IMAX cameras to film sequences in a traditional feature film release.(“Production Notes” 20). The I-MAX camera is has the highest resolution above all kinds of cameras. When the film releases in an IMAX movie theater, with its 8 stories high, 28 meters wide IMAX screen, the scenes just come out from the white screen and make the audience feel astonished, especially when the scene is on the top of a building. If we watch The Dark Knight in an ordinary cinema, the scene will be cut into a 3/4 one in size while the IMAX cinema would show in a full-screen. The 20-minute IMAX scenes connected with other 65 mm cameras perfectly, there was no incongruity throughout the movie. With the great use of CGI and the new-try on IMAX cameras, The Dark Knight brought film production in to a new era.

actually, I didn't mention all these points in my presentation
but as a prensenter in a limited time
it's fair enough

also
I realized that Hanni and Lun are really my good partners XD
Only few people can tolerate my picky and psychopathically prefectionist
and reach an agreement

But in this case
I try to do my best
with a strong determination
I am not sure I achieve my goal or not
at least Chia-chi said well-done
but I felt a little upset about the I-MAX part
It's not easy to explain the view you watch without a blue ray Q_Q
also  in English...orz

somewhat...it's done
take a rest :)
