My Unforgettable Teacher
“Oh my god, why can you make such a silly mistake?!” shouted at Elsa—my unforgettable teacher. That was a common conversation between us, in a “theoretically” peaceful morning.
When I was a third grader in senior high, there were four very popular and prestigious teachers called “the four seasons” in my cram school. Hot or cold, we could see Elsa wear a very sexy black Mango and perfectly tight jeans which showed her perfect figure. Undoubtedly, she was the “summer” . She brought sunshine to us in every class indeed. Whenever I saw her, she was always energetic. She was not the stereotype I imagined about what a teacher should look like and act like, she loved to go to lounge bar, disco KTV…and any exciting recreational resort. Perhaps some would criticize her dressing and behaviors are not formal enough as a teacher , but who cares? We just enjoyed the warmth she sent to us.
She was good at teaching grammar, she always told us ”Grammar is dead, but our language is alive”, she exaggerated every situation we can meet in our daily life and put the grammar concept in, like “if I were you I would……” she said “What a terrible grade, if I were you, I would rather take my life than live under the insult.” then grinned to us “but I am not you and I will not become you, so use the past tense, understand?” I will never forget the moment and the grammar I guess.
But not only that, she was the youngest one of “the four seasons”, so that she had no generation gap with us, also, she knew what kind of stupid mistakes we may make. She indicated our mistakes directly, such as “what a shame, don’t tell other people you are my student.” “Do not make this kind of foolish mistake again, should I get my knee down to beg you?” She was not like other experienced teachers expressed their confusion or anger in a euphemistic way. Sometimes it was very sad to hear so. Soon, I got used to it, and appreciated her honesty. With the improvement of my English, the blame turned out to be praise and anticipation. “I bet the only thing you need to do is believe your English will get 90 in the JCEE.”
When I told her I didn’t get 90 in the JCEE, she just put her hand on the breast and yelled “You break my heart! Why don’t you bump the wall!” The only thing in my mind was “Why can she be that dramatic under any circumstances ?”
I went to the cram school the other day, the other teachers told me that she got a promotion to China’s branch. At that moment, I felt a little disappointed; seldom do I have the chance to see her again. What she made me feel unforgettable is not only her teaching skill, but as a teacher, she was just like sunshine in my gloomy third grader life with her endless energy and enthusiastic attitude. She was a fliker of light which lit up our reluctant cram school life, her jokes, her smile and her laugh were precious memories in that hard time.
There are many teachers passing by through out my school life, but only few of then can occupy a place in my memory, while memories seep from my vein, she is the only one bear the “unforgettable” title with finality.
